At the very end of April, U.S. Marshals in Baltimore said that a convicted sex offender had escaped and was considered to be at large. He was at a Federal Halfway House, but he got away from it, and then he never made the contact that he was supposed to make with the authorities. He was supposed to get in touch with the Baltimore City Sex Offender Unit.
The police have recently stated that the man has been captured once again, and he is now in custody. They issued a thank you message to the community as a whole for the assistance they were able to get in bringing him in once again. They caught him on May 7.
The man had multiple charges in his past. It started in July 2003, when a conviction was reached for sexual misconduct with a victim under 17. After that, in October 2013, he was charged with by Baltimore for failing to register as a sex offender. In August 2011, he had been convicted of a similar crime when he faced a federal felony charge for failure to register as a sex offender.
For those who have been convicted of sex offenses, getting everything in order with the sex offender registration system is not optional. It is part of the legal process, and it cannot be ignored. However, those who have failed to do so still deserve a chance to plead their case if they want to fight the charges; even when pleading guilty, they have the right to a fair trial.
