Bel Air man’s plea in child pornography case: Guilty

On Behalf of | May 25, 2014 | Child Pornography

A man from Bel Air has officially entered his plea in a child pornography case, and he says that he is guilty. The man is 61 years old, and he actually pleaded guilty on a pair of counts, both of which were for the possession of child pornography. This was done in the Harford County Circuit Court.

Because of this plea, the case can come to a close, and the man has gotten his sentence. According to the news release that was put out regarding the case, that sentence is for 10 years behind bars. It is important to note, though, that all but a single year of that sentence will be suspended.

When he gets out, the man will be watched by the Department of Parole and Probation for a total of five additional years. On top of that, he has to put his name on the sex offender registration list.

The man was busted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation after they saw that the offending photos where being transferred to the man’s computer via the Internet. They spent some time monitoring the activity and building a case, and they then approached the man with a search warrant. His computer was taken, and the FBI found many compromising images on his hard drive. After analyzing these images, the FBI came back and arrested the man for his crimes.

Entering a guilty plea does not mean that someone is simply at the mercy of the judge, however. They still have rights that must be upheld when it comes to the type of sentence that they get under Maryland law.
