Attorney loses license for sexual assaulting clients

On Behalf of | Dec 1, 2016 | Sex Crimes

A lawyer from Ohio was disbarred and sentenced to 12 years in prison for using hypnotism to assault his clients sexually. It is important to note that this particular lawyer lost his license before he was even convicted or sentenced to prison. The speed with which the Ohio bar invalidated his license is illustrative of the multiple dangers that you could face if you are charged with sexual misconduct.

The judge, in this case, was presented with evidence of two conflicting accounts of the attorney. She was read victim impact statements from two of the attorney’s victims that spoke about the effect of his assault on their personal lives. Furthermore, she was presented with more than 50 letters in support of the attorney. The letters were from his family, wife, friends, church members, and other clients.

The attorney was arrested after a client wore a wire for the police who recorded his assault in real time. In 2015 he was arrested and agreed to forfeit his license to practice law permanently.

If you are facing sexual misconduct charges, especially if you are a professional, you should seek legal advice from a defense attorney as soon as possible. Even the hint of a sexual assault charge could result in professional sanctions or even cost you your professional license. Notably, this lawyer lost his license to practice law before he was even convicted of sexual assault. Don’t risk your career, talk to an experienced attorney and begin planning your legal defense now.
