Maryland county executive facing DUI charge

On Behalf of | Nov 7, 2017 | Drunk Driving Charges

A Maryland veterinarian who also serves as Cecil County Executive is facing charges for driving under the influence. The 69-year old man was arrested late last month after a state trooper allegedly saw him weaving in his Infiniti across lanes in the area north of Chesapeake City on Route 213.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Oct. 26. The man was charged with other traffic violations, including negligent driving and failure to stay in his designated lane, in addition to DUI.

According to the trooper, he smelled alcohol when he approached the vehicle to speak with the driver. Law enforcement did not make public any information about whether a Breathalyzer or any other types of field sobriety tests were performed at the scene. He was transported to North East Barracks and was later released.

The doctor reportedly practices equine veterinary medicine, works with farmers and also deals in commercial and residential real estate in Maryland and Delaware. He has served as Cecil County Executive for approximately a year. Prior to being elected to that post, he represented Maryland’s 1st District as a county councilman. That district includes Chesapeake City, Cecilton and Earleville.

The consequences of a drunk driving conviction can be serious. However, for those in a public position or in the public eye, even an arrest can impact their reputation and potentially their career. Whatever the circumstances behind a DUI arrest, it’s essential to seek the help of an experienced Maryland criminal defense attorney who can work to ensure that your rights are protected and work to mitigate the legal consequences.
