Call about alleged loitering leads to arrest for prostitution

Arrests for prostitution are often the result of undercover police officers pretending to be potential customers of a suspect. This appears to be what happened in a recent case involving a 38-year-old Baltimore woman.

The allegations are that the woman was standing on a street corner in the early morning hours recently. Detectives were in the area conducting surveillance due to citizen complaints that people were loitering in the area. The citizen complainers believed the loiterers were engaging in illegal activity, specifically prostitution. According to the detectives, they approached the woman who agreed to accept money in exchange for performing illegal acts. She was then arrested and charged with prostitution.

When a person is arrested and charged with prostitution, that person faces not only time in prison and possible hefty fines; there is a stigma that goes along with those kinds of charges. Those who are accused or convicted could lose their jobs and their friends. Reputations may be damaged forever. Anyone charged with a criminal offense such as prostitution may require the help of an experienced and aggressive sexual offense defense attorney.

The alleged offenders deserve to have all their constitutional rights protected, regardless of the circumstances of a case. An accusation does not automatically equate to a conviction. And, of course, a conviction can have a far-reaching impact on a person’s life. Having to register as a sex offender can lead to many issues down the road, including restrictions on housing and employment. Convicted sex offenders will often have to disclose their status on employment applications, often ruining their chances to get hired.
