16 indictments after 2-month investigation into drug ring

On Behalf of | Jan 11, 2015 | Drug Charges

A two-month investigation into an alleged drug crew has resulted in 16 indictments. 15 of these were related to the distribution of heroin and the remaining charge was for murder. For the people accused of these serious crimes, there will be some sleepless nights ahead. The penalties associated with these crimes are immense, and they will undoubtedly change the lives of the accused, even if the penalties are lessened or reduced in some way.

However, there is an element to many drug busts like this that often goes overlooked: the many protocols and elements that the police used in order to snare their alleged drug criminals.

In some drug cases surveillance, informants and other more complex elements are used so that the case can be made. These protocols all have rules and regulations that apply to them, and if the police failed to uphold these rules and regulations, then they could have a botched investigation on their hands.

Warrants are a part of this discussion. If the police didn’t obtain the right warrants at the right time in order to perform certain actions (may they involve surveillance or not), then the police may have blown the case.

No matter the circumstances in a drug case, the people who are accused of the crime need to talk to an attorney as soon as possible. With an attorney by your side, your rights will be protected and upheld, and you have a chance to minimize the consequences that could stem from the charges.
