Maryland man faces DUI, DWI and additional charges

A Maryland man is facing multiple charges including both DUI and DWI after an incident on April 11. According to the Maryland State Police (MSP), a trooper in an unmarked vehicle spotted the Bryans Road man swerving between lanes and going onto a grass median.

The trooper chased the driver for about a half-mile and caught up with him when he pulled into a driveway. He said that the driver smelled like Phencyclidine (PCP) and showed signs of being under the influence.

After performing field sobriety tests on the man, multiple troopers attempted to arrest him. However, troopers were able to place him under arrest without further incident and injuries.

As the driver was being processed at the La Plata Barrack, he complained of difficulty breathing and chest pains. He was taken the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center. He was released from the hospital later that day and taken to the Charles County Detention Center.

The charges against the man, in addition to DWI and DUI, include resisting arrest. He is also facing charges for allegedly driving on a suspended license in an unregistered, uninsured vehicle.

Charges related to driving under the influence can add up quickly if a person is driving in an unsafe manner and doesn’t have a valid license, vehicle and/or insurance. Of course, resisting arrest is never a good response.

Anyone who is pulled over for suspected DUI should be as cooperative as possible to help prevent further charges — not to mention injuries. Then, it’s important to seek the assistance of an experienced Maryland DUI attorney to protect your rights and guide you through the legal system.
