Woman accused of sex crimes in 2 Maryland counties

A 43-year-old woman awaiting trial in Baltimore County for charges related to prostitution was recently accused of operating a brothel in Montgomery County. Police say that they were led to the accused woman by a woman whom they met at the Red Roof Inn in Gaithersburg; the woman claimed to be working as a prostitute for someone named "Wendy." Police photographed $1,260 that the alleged prostitute was going to give to "Wendy," and they later took the 43-year-old into custody after she exited the other woman's hotel room. Police say that she had on her possession the $1,260 that they photographed earlier.

Man in custody on child pornography charges

According to Maryland State Police, a Carroll County man has been taken into custody on child pornography charges. The defendant was taken into custody on March 11 following an investigation that spanned several months into a file-sharing network that allegedly exchanged child pornography. The computer activity was traced to the defendant's residence in Westminster by an investigator with the Maryland Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Man charged with failing to update sex offender registration

According to reports, a 23-year-old sex offender was recently taken into custody after authorities determined that he allegedly failed to update his address when he moved to Leonardtown, Maryland. The man is originally from Virginia, and he reportedly is a registered sex offender in that state.

Maryland sex abuse case involves 14-year-old and her instructor

In October 2013, the Department of Social Services and the Annapolis Police Department received reports of sexual abuse regarding an East Coast Martial Arts instructor at an academy in Edgewater. The 26-year-old instructor was allegedly involved with a female student who was only 14 years old.

Man pleads guilty to child pornography, faces 20 years in prison

A 24-year-old Maryland man reportedly pleaded guilty on Feb. 26 to charges of sexually exploiting a minor in order to produce child pornography. As part of his plea deal, if accepted by the court, the man will be in prison for 20 years and must register as a sex offender. His sentencing was scheduled for June 23.

Man gets life in prison for role as pimp in sex trafficking ring

Baltimore residents may be interested in the recent sentencing of a man for acting as a pimp in a sex trafficking ring that spanned from 2008 until January 2013. The 35-year-old Mexican national was sentenced to life in prison on Feb. 19 in a Georgia federal courtroom. The sentencing came five months after the man had pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring with others to engage in sex trafficking.
